The Commission for the Regulation of Utilities, the CRU, has announced that the moratorium on electricity and gas domestic disconnections will be extended until the end of March for all customers.

It was due to expire at the end of this month.

The CRU also announced that protections in place for customers with suppliers will be reviewed in advance of next winter.

These protections include moving customers experiencing financial hardship onto the cheapest available plans.

Existing protections for vulnerable customers will remain in place.

"The CRU considered it appropriate to extend this moratorium on disconnections for all domestic customers given that they are continuing to experience high prices and uncertainty as to when those prices will reduce," Karen Trant, CRU Director of Customer Policy and Protection, said.
