Amazon has said it has no announcement to make, at this time, about a possible future Irish-specific website.
Tánaiste Leo Varadkar visited the company's new 'fulfilment centre' in Baldonnell, Co Dublin and unveiled a plaque to mark its official opening.
The 630,000 sq ft centre contains millions of items that are processed and shipped across the island of Ireland and Europe.
The Dublin centre is Amazon's first such facility in Ireland and the company says it provides faster delivery for customers across the country, including one-day delivery on hundreds of thousands of items.
The centre has created 500 new jobs across a wide range of roles, including engineers, HR and IT as well as employees who perform the roles of picking, packing and shipping customer orders.
In other countries, Amazon's record on workers' rights and industrial relations has been criticised.
"All of our employees have a right to join a trade union," said Darragh Kelly, General Manager, Amazon Fulfilment Centre.
"We've put in place amazing facilities for our employees such as HR hubs, safety hubs and leadership teams that are based on-site."
"Our employees join not just for the job they are hired for, they join to grow their careers." Mr Kelly said.
The Tánaiste described the opening of the fulfilment centre as a really important investment in the country.
"There are jobs available at all levels including many high-skilled jobs in engineering and IT among others," Mr Varadkar said.
"This investment indicates a strong commitment to Ireland by Amazon," he added.
