The seasonally adjusted Live Register total for August stood at 186,100 people, an increase of 1,900 or 1% from the previous month.

People arriving in Ireland from Ukraine under the EU's Temporary Protection Directive are counted on the Live Register if they are on Jobseekers Allowance for 50 days or more.

According to the Central Statistics Office, there were 11,851 people benefitting from the EU's Temporary Protection Directive included in the Live Register figures for August 2022, an increase of 1,909 from July 2022.

The CSO said that previous recipients of the Pandemic Unemployment Payment (PUP) who have transitioned to a jobseeker's payment are now appearing on the Live Register.

"The unadjusted Live Register total for August 2022 was 197,125," said CSO Statistician Morgan O'Donnell.

"When seasonal effects are considered, the seasonally adjusted Live Register total for August 2022 was 186,100, which is an increase of 1,900 persons from July 2022 and a decrease of 2,400 when compared to August 2019," he added.

The Live Register is not designed to measure unemployment. It includes part-time workers as well as seasonal and casual workers who are entitled to Jobseeker’s Benefit or Jobseeker’s Allowance.

The latest unemployment figures were released on Wednesday and showed that the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for August was 4.3%, up from a rate of 4.2% in July and down from 5.5% in August 2021.
