A Conamara-based (Connemara) medical devices company is to create 150 jobs as part of a major expansion programme.

Aran Biomedical designs and manufactures implantable devices at its facility in An Spidéal in Co Galway.

The company already employs in the region of 120 people there and said the additional roles will be filled over a three-year period.

Last year it opened a dedicated braiding centre to deal with increased demand for its products.

It now plans to construct another new premises in An Spidéal, in anticipation of continuing business growth.

The firm says this will allow it to treble its manufacturing capacity in the coming years.

The new highly skilled jobs will be in the production, engineering, quality and supply chain management parts of the business.

Aran Biomedical is a client company of Údarás na Gaeltachta, which works to promote investment in Gaeltacht areas.
