Eoghan McCabe to move to Chairman role at Intercom

Eoghan McCabe, the co-founder of Irish tech firm, Intercom, has told staff he is to step down from his position and become chairman of the company.

In an email to staff, Mr McCabe said chief operating officer Karen Peacock will take over as CEO.

"Over the past few years I've been thinking about what I want my next chapter to look like," he wrote.

"I’ve known I wanted to move to the Chairman role at Intercom eventually and when I hired Karen 3 years ago I told her this plan."

"I told her that the ideal end-state for her here would be as CEO. Since then, Karen’s become my main strategic partner and a leader through our biggest opportunities, and someone I increasingly was excited to take on more and more responsibility, and ownership of what we do."

Mr McCabe said that at the start of this year it became clear to him that 2020 was the year for his "big change" to take place.

The company, he said, has carried out a successful strategic pivot, has line of sight to profitability and an eventual initial public offering after that.

He said he paused his plans when the Covid-19 crisis hit, but now a plan is in place he is confident about moving forward.

Karen Peacock will take over on July 1st while Mr McCabe will lead the board.

Intercom was founded a decade ago in Dublin by Eoghan McCabe, Des Traynor, Ciaran Lee and David Barrett.

It makes messaging software to help firms communicate with customers and employs 600 people.
