Amazon has begun selling the vehicle based version of its Alexa virtual assistant here in Ireland.
Echo Auto is powered by the car's 12V power outlet and connects to the stereo via Bluetooth or 3.5mm audio jack.
The Alexa connection comes via tethering with the user’s smartphone data plan through the Alexa app.
Amazon says Echo Auto can play music, make calls, play audiobooks, play games and manage reminders through voice control while in the car.
The device has eight microphones, which the company says makes it possible for the user to talk to Alexa over music, air conditioning and road noise.
The Echo Auto can be bought from Amazon’s own website as well as Argos, Dixons and Very.co.uk and costs £49.99.
Despite employing several thousand people in Ireland, Amazon does not yet have a .ie domain address.
