The Central Bank has appointed Sharon Donnery as Acting Governor from June 1 to the end of August.
This follows the announcement last week of the nomination of New Zealand's Treasury Chief Gabriel Makhlouf as the new Central Bank Governor.
As Mr Makhlouf is not due to take up his new position until September 1, it was necessary for the Central Bank to appoint an Acting Governor until then.
Philip Lane, the current Central Bank Governor, is due to leave the bank on June 1 to take up a new role at the European Central Bank.
Ms Donnery, who narrowly lost out in the race to head the ECB's supervisory arm last year, is one of Professor Lane's two deputies.
In a statement, the Central Bank said that the Acting Governor has all the responsibilities and powers of the Governor.
Ms Donnery will also also continue to perform her role as Deputy Governor, Central Banking, during her time as Acting Governor.
