Ryanair has reported a 10% increase in its passenger numbers for August.

The airline said it flew 12.7 million customers last month, up by 1.2 million on the same time last year.

Its load factor - or how many seats it fills on each flight - increased by 1% to 97%.

Meanwhile, Ryanair today opened its new base at Memmingen, its tenth base in Germany and its 85th in Europe.

The airline also launched its Memmingen summer 2018 schedule with six new routes to Fez, Oradea, Seville, Stockholm, Thessaloniki and Warsaw, and extra flights to Alicante.

Ryanair said the 19 routes in total will help deliver 860,000 customers through Memmingen next year, as it grows its traffic by 26%.

Shares in the company moved higher in Dublin trade today.
