Fiach Mac Conghail has been named as the new chief executive of the Digital Hub Development Agency.

Mr Mac Conghail will take up the position in October.

He is currently director and CEO of the Abbey Theatre and was a Senator from 2011 to 2016.

The DHDA is the State agency charged with managing and developing the Digital Hub cluster, which aims to create an international centre of excellence for digital content and technology enterprises.

Located in Dublin's Liberties area, it is currently home to almost 100 established digital businesses, employing just over 700 people.

Its companies include indigenous firms Athena Media, Maithú IT Solutions, Software Design and Sonru, while it is also the EMEA headquarters of major global companies like eMaint, Eventbrite and Lonely Planet.

Industry organisations such as the Irish Internet Association, NDRC and Silicon Republic are also housed there.
