Ronan Dunne is to become executive vice president and group president of US telecoms giant Verizon Wireless.

The Dublin-born businessman has served as CEO of O2 UK for the past eight years, but announced last month that he was to leave the company.

He is due to take up his new role in September, reporting to Verizon’s president of operations John Stratton.

Verizon Wireless employs more than 162,000 people in the US and had almost $132 billion in revenues last year.

Yesterday it was announced that the firm's parent company - Verizon Communications - was to acquire Dublin-based software firm Fleetmatics for €2.1 billion.
