Virgin Media Ireland said it added over 6,500 new subscriptions for its recently launched mobile services in the fourth quarter of last year.

The company, formerly UPC Ireland, said its total subscriptions for its television, broadband and phone services rose to 1.1 million on the back of increased broadband and landline phone customers.

It said it had a total of 371,200 broadband subscribers, 311,200 digital cable TV subscribers, 358,100 phone subscribers and 7,600 mobile subscribers by the end of the year.

During the year, Virgin Media bought TV3, marking its first entry into the free-to-air broadcasting sector.

The company also appointed Tony Hanway as its new chief executive in November.

"2015 has been a year of continued investment in our network and products, creating a platform for further growth and innovation in the year ahead," commented Virgin Media's chief financial officer Carol Grennan.
