Since 2014 over 440 Irish applicants have secured nearly €180m in funding for research and innovation projects under an EU scheme.
The finance has been made available via Horizon 2020, an EU funding programme for such projects that runs from 2014-2020 and has a budget of around €80bn.
There was a particularly strong performance by Irish companies in winning €53m in funding.
In addition, Leadership in Enabling and Industrial Technologies secured €60 million in funding, with a portfolio of ICT, Nanotechnologies, Advanced materials, Biotechnology, Advanced manufacturing and processing projects all benefitting.
Minister for Skills, Research & Innovation, Damien English today made the announcement of the level of Irish success with the programme.
EU institutions have agreed on a budget of €10bn for the project for next year, representing an 11.6% increase on 2015.
Enterprise Ireland fronts the national support network for Horizon 2020, which is the largest ever research and innovation programme in the EU.
