Monthly factory gate prices, the cost of manufacturing goods before profit mark-up is added, fell by 1.1% in September.
This compares to an increase of 1.2% for September of last year.
The statistics from the Central Statistics Office also show that from the beginning of the year through to the end of September there has been an increase of 3% in factory gate prices.
This figure has fallen from 5.4% in the year to August.
Meanwhile the price index for export sales decreased by 1.0% in September, while the index for home sales decreased by 1.9% during the month.
For the first nine months of the year there was an increase of 4.4% in the price index for export sales (this can be influenced by currency fluctuations) and a decrease of 5.2% in respect of the price index for home sales.
For September the most significant change was an increase in fish and fish products (+1.9%), while there were decreases in ‘Other’ food products including bread and confectionery (-2.0%), basic pharmaceutical products and pharmaceutical preparations (-0.8%), as well as computer, electronic and optical products (-0.8%).
Contributing to the annual change in the price indices were increases in computer, electronic and optical products (+12.4%), basic pharmaceutical products and pharmaceutical preparations (+5.4%) and meat and meat products (+4.2%), while there were decreases in dairy products (-14.5%), fruit and vegetables (-5.2%) and other non-metallic mineral products (-1.9%).
