Eircom has paid more than €700,000 in refunds to more than 11,600 customers whose lines were out of service for over ten days last year.
The company has refunded almost €602,000 to retail and residential customers and a further €98,800 to businesses who suffered outages between the end of December in 2013 and 30 April last year.
The payments are part of an out-of-court settlement reached between Eircom and the communications ComReg in relation to the telecom provider’s Universal Service Obligation.
This requires the company to offer a basic level of service to all users, including access to a working fixed line.
Eircom said its retail customers should receive the refund in their bills for December 2014 or January of this year.
ComReg says it also expects other telecoms, which use Eircom’s wholesale network, to pass the refunds on to their customers.
