The communications regulator has decided to cut the monthly rate Eircom can charge rivals for access to its network.
ComReg said it would reduced the local loop unbundling (LLU) charge from the current €16.43 a month to €12.41. This price will stay in place until November 2012.
ComReg said the current price was well above the European average of around €9.28 a month, and had acted as barrier to competition in the telecoms market.
ALTO, which represents telecoms operators, said it welcomed the move, though it added that it still did not go far enough.
