Mobile phone company O2 Ireland said its monthly average revenues per user fell for the third quarter of 2009, as its total customers numbers rose slightly from 1.713 million to 1.717 million.
It said its ARPU for the three months from July to September fell to €62.11 compared to €62.51 in the second quarter and down from €72.20 for the same time last year.
O2 Ireland, which is owned by Telefonica, said it signed on 13,761 new billpay customers in the three month period to reach a total bill pay customer base of 676,365. However pre-pay customers fell by 12,945 in the quarter.
A total of 783 million text messages were sent between July and September, up slightly from the second quarter. Year on year, the amount of text messages sent jumped by 28.6%. Average monthly minutes of use decreased slightly in the third quarter from 228 to 226.
O2 said that data revenue as a percentage of overall service revenue grew year on year, rising from 7.3% to 10.4%. It said that a key driver of this growth was mobile broadband, with customers numbers at over 125,000 to date. Sales of iPhones also boosted revenues.
