130 jobs are to be lost at the technology firm Xilinx in Dublin. Some of the jobs are being moved to the company's operations in Singapore while others will be outsourced.
This morning, 400 staff at Xilinx's European headquarters in Citywest were briefed by management about changes to the company's global operations. 130 jobs, around a quarter of the workforce at Citywest, are to be lost.
The majority of jobs will be from the high-end manufacturing and test engineering part of the operation at Citywest. A number of associated administrative and support jobs will also be affected.
Some of the jobs will be moved to the company's facility in Singapore while others will be outsourced.
The jobs are part of a global restructuring plan in which 6% of the workforce globally are to be let go. But research and development and engineering functions will continue at Citywest.
The redundancies will take place over the next nine months and staff will be offered what is described as an appropriate package. Xilinx has been operating in Ireland since 1995.
It makes programmable microchips for use in electronic systems, like TV set-top boxes and satellites.
