Committee hears of new standards for Eircom

The regulator of the communications sector, ComReg, has imposed new standards on Eircom. The new standards will help prevent customers having to wait months for phone line repairs and installations.

ComReg's Alex Chisholm told the Oireachtas communications committee that Eircom had been told it has to provide new lines to 80% of customers within two weeks.

The company also has to do 80% of phone line repairs within 48 hours. Mr Chisholm said this applied even where a customer had switched their phone contract to another company.
