Technology company IBM has announced a new research collaboration with Irish universities which will create 40 new jobs. The investment is being backed by IDA Ireland.
IBM is setting up what it calls a 'collaboratory', in which the company's researchers can carry out research outside its laboratories by working with other institutions.
Under the agreement announced today, IBM supercomputing experts will work with researchers from Trinity College, Tyndall National Institute, NUIG, UCC and the Irish Council for Science, Engineering and Technology. They will aim to develop more powerful computer systems to deal with massive volumes of data and analysis.
IBM also announced plans to work with researchers at the University of Limerick and the IBM Watson Centre to design a new generation of data centres at its Dublin Technology Campus.
