US communications technology company Arris is to make a €4.5m investment in research and development at its Irish operation in Cork.
The project is being backed by IDA Ireland. Arris specialises in technology used on broadband and cable television systems.
The Cork investment will be in systems which allow cable TV companies to provide increased video capacity, including video on demand.
Arris, which is quoted on New York's Nasdaq market, is located at the Cork Airport Business Park and employs 52 people.
The Cork operation, formerly Com21 Ireland, was established in 1999 and was acquired by Arris in mid-2003.
