UK economy grew by 0.3% in first quarter

Britain's economy grew by only 0.3% in the first quarter of 2008 compared with the final three months of 2007, official data shows today.

Gross domestic product (GDP) grew by 2.3% during the first quarter when compared with the same time a year earlier, according to the Office for National Statistics.

The data was revised down from data published in May, when the ONS had said that GDP growth had stood at 0.4% and 2.5% respectively.
