A subsidiary of software group SAP is to create 100 new jobs over four years in a €29m investment in Dublin. Business Objects is setting up a research and development centre in SAP's CityWest facility in a project backed by IDA Ireland.

The announcement is one of four being made by the IDA this week which will result in the creation of a total of 200 new jobs in four companies. The chief executive of the IDA has acknowledged that there will be job losses this year, but he said it was important to continue to create high value jobs.

Other jobs this week are being created at technology giant IBM and satellite communications company Solaris Mobile. Online jewellery retailer Blue Nile, which specialise in diamond rings, will also recruit staff for customer support and quality control for its operation in Blanchardstown.

Business Objects established a Europe, Middle East and Africa centre in Dublin in 2004 and currently employs 200 at ParkWest in Dublin. SAP employs around 800 people directly in Ireland.

Business Objects develops software which allows businesses to track, analyse and manage their information more effectively.
