Mobile phone company O2 Ireland said its revenue for the three months to March was down 0.7% to €222m. Monthly average revenue per user (ARPU) for the quarter fell to €43.4 from €44.2 the same time last year.
However, the phone group said its customer base at the end of March stood at 1.663 million - a new record high. Customer numbers were up 1.8% compared to the same time last year with 16,805 new customers added in the three month period.
O2 said that a total of 439 million text messages were sent in the three months from January to March, up 10% on the three month period in 2007.
The company said its O2 Broadband service is exceeding expectations, with subscriber numbers now standing at over 50,000. Data revenue, as a percentage of overall service revenue, was 26.8% in first quarter, up marginally from 26% the same time last year.
