US software giant Microsoft has won recognition for its Office software package format as an international standard.
The International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) said in a statement that a vote of its national member bodies had reached the required 75% threshold to approve Microsoft's bid.
14% were against recognition, down from 26% in a September 2007 vote which went against Microsoft.
The ISO is a network of the national standards institutes of 157 and is based in the Swiss city of Geneva.
