Online ads to take bigger slice

Online advertising in Ireland is expected to grow to 3.6% of total advertising spend this year, according to iReach.

The market research company says the spend on online advertising should reach €55m, up 57% over 2007.

The online share of advertising budgets is growing as internet penetration continues to grow in Ireland, accelerated by increasing access to mobile broadband. Over 1.4 million Irish people now have access to the internet.

Overall advertising budgets are growing too, and are expected to exceed €1.5 billion for the first time this year.

However, iReach says that online advertising spend in Ireland still lags significantly behind spend in the UK, where over 12% of marketing media budgets was spent on online advertising campaigns last year.
