Celestica to create 120 new Galway jobs

120 new jobs are to be created at the Canadian owned Celestica electronic plant in Galway. The company already has a workforce of 320 at the Parkmore Industrial Estate where it has been in production since 2004.

This morning it announced that it will expand its Galway plant to produce a new range of  power packs for use with mobile phones and other electronic devices -including iPods and MP3 players.

The fuel cell power packs, which will provide multiple charges to portable electronic devices, will be the first of their kind on the market.

Celestica says it will be recruiting engineers, chemists and specialists in the fields of automation and quality control to fill the new jobs.

Enterprise and Employment Minister Michael Martin, who was in Galway for the  announcement, said it  was 'yet another example of how the West of Ireland was succeeding in attracting sophisticated and leading edge jobs and investment'.
