Eircom said today it has sold its masts business, Mastco, to Towercom for €155m, but has retained operational access to them.
The company also announced today a big contract win in Northern Ireland.
Towercom is a consortium made up of mast company Threefold Project Management, Goodbody Stockbrokers and Plainfield Asset Management.
Eircom says the proceeds of the sale of the 340 masts will go mainly towards the further roll-out of broadband and its 3G mobile network.
Eircom said today it has secured a €100m contract with the Northern Ireland Civil Service which will run for 6-10 years.
It will provide a wide range of voice, video and data applications with next generation capabilities to all eleven government departments across Northern Ireland.
Eircom was awarded the contract after a tender process and said that 'Network NI' will be serviced from eircom's new centre in Belfast that has been designed specifically to meet the requirements of the contract.
Eircom says that as a result of the contract allocation up to 40 new jobs will be created in Northern Ireland.
Earlier this year, eircom announced plans to further develop its business presence in the North.
