British newspaper group Johnston Press has reported strong growth in advertising revenue at its titles in the Republic of Ireland.
Advertising revenue grew by 10% in the first half compared with the same period last year at its Score Press and Leinster Leader stables of regional newspaper titles.
This was in contrast to a 2.9% drop in its UK newspaper ad revenues. Johnston said the decline in UK print advertising was slowing.
The company's pre-tax profits fell by 6% to £55m, while overall revenue was flat at £312.8m. As well as the advertising fall, increased newsprint costs and investment in digital publishing also affected profits.
