Newspaper circulation figures for the first six months of the year show falls for the Irish Independent and Irish Examiner and a slight rise for the Irish Times.

The Audit Bureau of Circulation (ABC) figures show that in the daily market, the Irish Independent still leads the way on 160,818, but this is down 1.1% on the same period last year. The Irish Times added 0.3% to 118,150 and the Irish Examiner dropped 2.4% to 55,860.

In the Sunday newspaper market, the Sunday Independent's circulation was 287,942, up marginally, while the Sunday World gained 3.1% to 282,766. The Sunday Business Post added 1.2% to 56,522, but the Sunday Tribune fell 2.8% to 70,192, though it showed a rise compared with the second half of 2006.

The Evening Herald lost 5.5% to 82,854 and Cork's Evening Echo fell 1% to 26,814.
