Computer maker Dell is seeking 80 to 100 voluntary redundancies from its plant in Limerick, where 3,000 people are employed.
Staff were told this morning about the plan, which follows an announcement from the parent company last month that it would be seeking to cut staff numbers worldwide by 10%.
The redundancy programme will not apply to Dell's other plant in Cherrywood in Dublin, where 1,500 are employed.
In Limerick, Dell is seeking lay-offs among staff in support services, such as human resources and finance, and management in manufacturing, but not among manufacturing workers.
Despite the cuts, Dell says both of its Irish facilities are continuing to recruit new staff in some areas.
