Figures from mobile group O2 Ireland show that the average bill paid by its customers continued to drop in the first three months of this year.

Monthly average revenue per user (ARPU) was €44.20, down from €45 in the previous three months. ARPU figures have been falling for all Irish mobile operators amid increased competition.

O2 Ireland, now owned by Spain's Telefónica, said it had 1.63 million customers at the end of March, up 1,000 from the previous quarter. Service revenue rose 1% on the year to €224m, with data accounting for a quarter of the total.

O2 Ireland began trials of mobile television in March, and is due to launch mobile broadband services this summer.
