It was announced today that 100 customer service jobs are to be created by Sky Ireland and eight new research jobs are to be created by a Canadian robotics manufacture in Cork.
The Sky jobs are to be created in partnership with Abtran, an Irish business outsourcing company.
Recruitment has already begun for the new dedicated Sky Ireland customer service operation which is to be up and running by July in Bishopstown.
According to a statement from the company, the centre will service the needs of their current customer base of 465,000 Irish households and future new business.
It was also announced today that the Canadian robotics manufacture , Allen-Vanguard Corporation, is planning to increase R&D at its Co. Cork operation, with the creation of eight new jobs.
The company manufactures robots which are used by security forces to perform dangerous tasks and at the moment robots for the Canadian Department of National Defence and a US federal agency are being manufactured at the Kilbrittain facility.
Employment at the Cork operation now stands at 37, with 9 employed in R&D, and with the new IDA supported investment, the total employed will rise to 45, with 16 working in R&D.
