Software labs - IBM boost for Cork and Galway

IBM is to create 130 new jobs for software engineers in Cork and Galway following a decision by the company to expand its operations in Ireland.

Supported by IDA Ireland, IBM intends to invest up to €24m over the next three years expanding its operations in Ireland at the IBM Tivoli software development labs Cork and Galway, developing service management software.

The expansion follows IBM's takeover of the Vallent Corporation last month and will see the Cork and Galway labs becoming part of a network of more than 80 IBM software development labs worldwide.

ICT Ireland, the IBEC association that represents the high tech sector, said the jobs announcement is a reflection of the strength of the high tech skills base in Ireland and an indication of the confidence that the sector has in its future investment in Ireland.
