Mobile operator O2 has started a six month trial of broadcasting TV on mobile phones in Ireland to see if there is a demand for the service.
The company says 'Lost', 'Desperate Housewives', 'Ugly Betty' and 'The Premiership' are some of the programmes that 350 O2 customers in Dublin will be able to watch live on their mobile phones.
The trial is in partnership with transmission provider Arqiva, and will run until the end of August.
Thirteen channels have already signed up for the trial, including RTE1, RTE2, TV3, Sky Sports, Sky News, Setanta Sports and The Discovery Channel.
The trial uses digital video broadcasting handheld technology, similar to digital terrestrial television, which means the service remains unaffected by the number of people using it.
A similar trial by the two companies in Oxford found that 72% of trialists indicated they would take up the service, if it was made available.
