Probe costs affect disappointed Dell

Computer company Dell last night reported lower profits and missed its revenue targets for its fourth financial quarter to February 2.

Revenue was $14.4 billion, while earnings per share were 30 cents. Operating profits were $801m. Dell said the costs of a probe into its accounts knocked $89m off profits.

'We are disappointed with the company's results, but what matters is our future plan of action. We are systematically moving to increase efficiencies, improve execution and transform the company,' said chairman and CEO Michael Dell.

It also warned that its margins would continue to be under pressure in the next few quarters as it took measures to deal with the disappointing 2007 performance.
