Xerox profit brighter with digital colour

Printer and copier firm Xerox has posted better-than-expected quarterly profit, boosted by sales of its digital color systems and supplies.

Xerok said net profit fell to $214m, from $282 million a year earlier. Revenue rose 3% to $4.38 billion. Revenue from colour products rose 13%. Equipment sales declined 1%.

Over the past three years, Xerox has grabbed market share with new digital printers and office systems, but it still struggles to boost equipment sales. However, it expects that over time its digital sales and services will yield higher profit margins.

In December Xerox Ireland had announced a review of its operation at Ballcoolin, near Blanchardstown in Dublin, to be completed in the first quarter.

Xerox has 1,260 employees in Blanchardstown. It also has a plant in Dundalk, Co Louth and overall has a total Irish workforce of 1,717.
