Mirror owner to sell Racing Post

British newspaper group Trinity Mirror says it plans to sell the Racing Post and regional titles in the Midlands, London and the South East of England.

The group said the move would enable it to better focus on its remaining national newspaper titles, such as the Daily and Sunday Mirror, its digital operations and key regional titles in Scotland, northern England and Wales.

While conducting a strategic review, which began in the summer, the company said it rejected a takeover approach for its national newspaper business.

The review was sparked by a drop in profits due to a weak advertising environment. In a trading update, the company also said the advertising market continued to be difficult, with group ad revenues for the five months to November, excluding acquisitions and disposals down 8.4% year-on-year.
