Digicel acquires new mobile phone business

Denis O'Brien's mobile phone company, Digicel, has acquired the mobile business of Bonaire telecom provider, TELBO.

Digicel entered the market in Bonaire, a small island in the southern Caribbean, in July 2006. TELBO has been operating in Bonaire for 23 years and under the terms of the new deal, Digicel has acquired its existing mobile subsciber base.

Since its launch in 2001, Digicel has become the fastest growing wireless telecommunications operator in the Caribbean, according to the company. It currently operates in 22 markets and has more than 3 million subscribers.
