O2's Irish revenue drops in Q3

Revenue at mobile operator O2 Ireland fell in the third quarter of this year, because of increased competition and a cut in the termination rate, the rate charged for calls from other networks to O2's.

During the quarter, O2 Ireland added 4,000 new customers to bring its subscriber base to 1.6 million. But 12-month average revenue per user (ARPU) fell to €545 from €551 in the same period last year, though this is still much higher than in O2's UK and German businesses.

Parent company O2, now owned by Telefonica, said it added 812,000 mobile customers across its businesses in the third quarter and raised its revenue growth forecast for its core UK business.

O2 said its UK unit added a net 524,000 new customers in the three months, as it reported 14.9% growth in net service revenues at the business. O2 said its German business added 294,000 net new users and grew its service revenue by 6%.
