ISA wants expansion of funding schemes

The Irish Software Association wants the Government to extend the Business Expansion and Seed Capital funding schemes.

In its 2007 Budget submission, the IBEC group that represents the software sector, also urged the Finance Minister to support the indigenous software industry in its technology procurement and enhance the research and development tax credit scheme.

ISA says the indigenous software industry has the capacity to grow from employing 16,000 people to employing 50,000 and deliver annual revenues of €7.5 billion to the economy 2010. But it says that the Government must help create the right environment in which to deliver this potential.

The current Business Expansion Scheme and the Seed Capital Scheme are due to end on December 31, 2006. The ISA wants them extended until 2013 and an increase in the investment limits that the company can raise to €1.5m from €1m.
