Dublin-based Lithographic Web Press has been bought by print company Microprint. The move will result in the loss of 40 jobs from the company's workforce of 113.
Lithographic was formed in 2003 after a merger between Lithographic Universal of Bray and Smurfit Web Press. It is best known for printing magazines such as the RTE Guide, Woman's Way, IT, U and Cara. The company has suffered losses in recent years as a result of major price-cutting in the market.
Microorint, which was set up in 1987, prints technical manuals and general books for the IT, software, consumer electronics, telecoms and publishing sectors. The company runs a 24 hour facility in Tallaght and has a workforce of 95.
The company's management informed staff and their union representatives of the agreed deal today. Talks will begin immediately on severance terms for those who will lose their jobs as a result of the move.
It is expected to take a number of months to complete the transfer of employees and printing machinery to Microprint's plant in Tallaght.
