BT rides 'new wave' of growth

British telecoms group BT has reported pre-tax profits of £639m for its first quarter to the end of June, an increase of 24% on the same period last year.

Revenue moved up 3% to just under £4.9 billion. Underlying earnings were 2% higher at £1.4 billion.

BT said 18% growth in 'new wave' revenue - which includes broadband, IT services and mobile - more than offset a decline in revenue from traditional voice traffic. The newer revenue now accounts for 34% of all BT revenue.
