CSO figures out today showed that the numbers employed in the construction industry increased by 2.6% in April in comparison to the same month in 2005.
The Central Statistics Office said the monthly employment index increased from 106.3 in April last year to 109.1 in April this year.
The Construction Industry Federation (CIF) said the figures are the latest showing steady increase in employment in the sector which reflects, among other factors, the sustained growth of the house building sector.
The CIF said that the annual output of new housing units last year was three times the level at the start of the housing boom in 199 and the prospects are positive due to favourable demographics, low unemployment levels, rising income and low interest rates.
