Software piracy rate above EU average

New figures this morning suggest that 38% of the packaged software installed on personal computers in Ireland last year was illegal.

The Business Software Alliance, which represents the interests of the world's software producers, says that while the rate of software piracy in Ireland is falling, the level is still unacceptably high given its position as an exporting country for software. The average rate in the EU is 36%.

BSA Ireland chair Julian McMenamin said that, as an exporter, Ireland stood to benefit significantly from any reduction in worldwide software piracy.
