The Irish indigenous software industry has the capacity to grow from employing 16,000 people to employing 50,000 and deliver annual revenues of €7.5 billion to the economy by 2010.
The Irish Software Association's annual conference heard today that Irish software companies have shown themselves to be technically competent and innovative.
But ISA Chairman Bernie Cullinan said that to achieve true international scale, companies need to have revenues approaching the €50m mark.
'What this indigenous industry needs is the expertise and the capital to turn brilliant innovations onto internationally trading successes. Creating scale for Irish indigenous software companies is crucial if they wish to play in the same field as their global industry counterparts', he said.
Today's conference will set out the roadmap and give lessons on what it takes to become a serious player in the global marketplace.
