A new television channel aimed at the under-35s will launch on March 30. Channel 6 and will reach 600,000 homes across the country.
It will carry no news but one third of its output will be home produced - mainly entertainment, fashion and music shows. Channel 6 is buying in US series such as the US version of The Office, Sex and the City, My Name is Earl and Prison Break.
The channel's founder and director Michael Murphy said the channel hoped to reach 4% of the under-35 market in the first year. The station is backed by the Barry family of Cork, the Gowan Motor Group and several venture capital funds.
The channel has raised €14m from shareholders and will spend €2m on an advertising campaign. It will create 25 jobs initially and will not have any production facilities or studios. All programmes will be produced by independent production companies.
