Irish internet telephone company VoIP Ireland has acquired US telecoms company QC2.
Based in Rhode Island, QC2 is a telecoms engineering, design and installations company with particular expertise in wireless networks. Recently it has become involved in building broadband networks throughout the US.
VoIP Ireland managing director Brian Powell cited a recent report which said the number of residential VoIP subscribers in the US would jump from 1.1 million in 2004 to 24.3 million in 2008.
He described QC2 as a 'perfect match' for its US ambitions. 'For some months now we have been in discussions with a number of nationwide franchise chains in the hospitality, restaurant and retail sectors to provide them with broadband-on-demand services, including voice over IP services,' he added.
QC2 employs 40 people and has an annual turnover of $3-4m.
