An analysis of calls from Eircom payphones shows that Poland is now the second most popular destination for international calls after the UK.
The company says more than 200,000 people will make calls from its 6,000 payphones to more than 130 countries over the Christmas and New Year period.
The figures were released as the company announced that it would offer calls to all international landline destinations from its payphones at a rate of 25 cent per minute from Christmas Eve. This will fall to 15 cent if callers are using Eircom call cards from payphones.
