New research shows that television revenue already generated for next year's football World Cup has reached a record high of $1.7 billion.
The figures from Deloitte were released at the Soccerex 2005 conference, where football business leaders from around the world are gathered.
'Whilst some commentators have questioned the commercial stability of the game, the generation of over $1.7 billion from World Cup rights demonstrates the continued global appeal of quality football to spectators and commercial partners,' said Deloitte's Dan Jones.
European territories generated around $1.1 billion, representing more than 60% of the global total, with Latin America and Asia ranking next in the list, each generating over $200m.
