US chip technology group Xilinx has officially a new research centre at its European headquarters in Dublin.
The move marks the first expansion of its research laboratories outside the US. The new operation involves an investment of €7.5m, supported by IDA Ireland.
Xilinx has already invested €125m in its Irish operations to date. Dublin is the company¹s European headquarters where it operates an advanced R&D, operations and engineering centre.
The company makes programmable microchips that can be programmed for use in all kinds of electronic systems, from TV set top boxes to the vital systems in space ships and satellites.
* Minister for Enterprise Trade and Employment, Micheál Martin has also officially opened a new €2.5m extension to Data Electronics' data centre facility in Kilcarbery Park, Dublin. The 13,000 square feet expansion takes the facility up to 21,000 square feet.
